A escolha de Roberto Azevêdo para a direção-geral da Organização Mundial do Comércio (OMC) é um reconhecimento à qualidade da diplomacia brasileira, avalia a Confederação Nacional da Indústria (CNI). Também premia a capacidade de negociação e o conhecimento do diplomata, que atua há quase 15 anos em cargos ligados à OMC.
A expectativa da CNI é que, ao assumir o cargo, Azevêdo resgate a relevância do principal órgão de administração do comércio internacional e fortaleça o sistema multilateral de negócios.
O fortalecimento da OMC é importante para a construção de regras claras que deem estabilidade jurídica para os fluxos comercias, atendam aos compromissos assumidos entre os países e combatam práticas desleais, como subsídios à exportação e dumping.

Election of Brazilian to head of WTO will favor the restart of multilateral negotiations
The election of diplomat Roberto Azevêdo as new director-general of the World Trade Organization (WTO) is an acknowledgment of the quality of Brazilian diplomacy, says the National Confederation of Industry (CNI). It is a recognition of Azevêdo as a talented negotiator and deep knowledge of the institution, with over 15 years served in the WTO.
CNI is confident that Azevedo will restore the WTO's relevance as the world's main forum for negotiating international trade agreements and strengthen the multilateral trading system.
The reinvigoration of the WTO as legitimate global trade body is key to building a clear and stable set of rules for international trade, to secure ratified trade agreements and to combat disloyal practices, such as illegal subsidies to exports and dumping.
